Enjoy go-karting just at 10 minutes from the Hotel Saligari
In Valchiavenna you can feel like Niki Lauda for a day! If you are looking for an alternative way to spend an autumn afternoon with your friends we suggest you a funny idea …
Have you ever gone for a go-kart ride? Ten minutes from the Hotel Saligari there is a circuit that is perfect both for fans and for those who have never sat on a “miniature racing car”. I was part of the second category until a few nights ago, when some friends convinced me to try. They had to insist a bit: the idea didn’t drive me crazy initially, but in hindsight I can say: Fortunately, they convinced me!
For several years at the BoggiaKart circuit many national and international competitions have been held, if you are a kart-lover you definitely know it: this kart track is one of the most famous in Italy! But there is no need to pass selections and qualifications to compete, you just have to organize an evening with your friends and that’s it!
It is almost 18pm when Michele suggest us to do some go-kart track. The reactions are different: I portray the head almost like a turtle inside his shell, Fabio doesn’t show great enthusiasm while Carolina’s eyes shine from happiness. In the end we manage to reach a compromise, we will only do one session, no final race. I was already imagining the hellish noise of the engines and, in general, driving is not my passion, so I was also a bit afraid of making some disaster but then I was reassured by everyone: in the kart track of Boggia drive also the children!
More or less an hour later we reach the BoggiaPark in Gordona. From the Hotel Saligari we proceed towards Chiavenna on the ss36 and at the Novate roundabout take the exit for the provincial road sp2. After about ten km we meet a roundabout, turn left and from there in a few minutes we arrive at our destination. We park right in front of the risto-pub adjacent to the kart track and we come to ask for information: there is a group that has just gone to prepare for a race, then it will be our turn.
In the meantime we allow ourselves an aperitif while Michele gives us opinions on all the circuits he has tried. He really likes racing with karting and every time he is in Valchiavenna he takes the opportunity to make a jump at the BoggiaPark, according to him it is one of the funniest routes he has competed on. The track is just over a kilometer long and it is outside, but you can also run in the evening because it is lit.
When our turn arrives we go to the reception to register and take the helmets. A very kind boy gives us general directions on the course and the session: we have about 10 minutes to run freely on the circuit, our times will be monitored and shown on the screen. When the time comes for the last lap we will understand it from the classic checkered flag that will wave on the edge of the track.
To get even more into the competitive spirit, the guy take us a picture and ask for our “battle names” to be registered in the system. Who knows, maybe some of us will do the fastest lap of the day, or even the track record … You have to think well the battle name! For example, me, who had no hope of entering any rankings, invented a fanciful name, but Carolina, who had a good chance of running fast, preferred a recognizable nickname to be able to document her success with credibility.
We take a seat on a kart and I start to regret having agreed. Among other things, they all insist on letting me go first “so we make at least one overtaking” … But when the start light shine the adrenaline wins and I start to accelerate and to steer laughing like never before, I resist almost a whole lap without making me overcome and I consider it a great personal victory! While my fellow adventurers chase each other, I enjoy this brand new experience for me and I really have fun!
At the Kartodromo “Boggia”, among other things, there are electric karts so to my surprise (very welcome surprise) the classic “VROOOM” of race cars on the track is not there! It is almost surreal, it seems that someone has pressed a buttonto switch to silent mode. Silent aside my screams when I was almost crashing into the tires after having tightened a bit ‘too much the curve…
After the last lap we leave the karts and go seeing the results on the monitor. No one is astonished to see my long time, while Carolina actually did the third fastest time of the day and was faster than the guys in every lap. Finally dispelled the myth of women who are bad drivers! We take a picture on the podium next to the track, then we look at each other… and decide to jump on the kart for another session! Now I really try to go faster and when I finally find out I have improved my time of 3 seconds I am almost tempted to do a third round! Only the rumbling of my stomach and the image of a steaming pizza convince me to go to dinner and give up ( for the moment) to another challenge on go-karts.
We return to the Hotel for a licking dinner at La Trela restaurant. I order a delicious pizza with raw and tomatoes and a red beer. My friends instead take bresaola, sciatt, pizzoccheri and a bottle of Inferno Riserva, making the en-plein of typical Valtellina flavors. We are full and satisfied but we know, for the dessert, we always find a space, especially if it is the chocolate cake with a creamy heart!
