La Foppaccia

La Foppaccia is a beautiful meadow area situated between 1020 and 1090 meters above sea level, just above Verceia (1050 m). From here, you can enjoy a truly breathtaking panorama overlooking Lake Mezzola, the Chiavenna Plain, and the Valle dei Ratti.
At La Foppaccia, you’ll find a small, well-preserved church dedicated to Saint Anne. Every year, on the last Sunday of July, during the Feast of Saint Anne, you can participate in a celebration that envelops you in a unique atmosphere, bringing you back in time.
Today, La Foppaccia is a popular summer vacation spot, complete with a refuge, Chianova. However, in the past, it was an extremely valuable pastureland for the local economy of the people living in Verceia.
Getting to La Foppaccia
You can reach La Foppaccia by taking a forest track, accessible with a valid permit, which can be obtained at the local bars in Verceia. To get there, exit SS36 immediately after the first tunnel, at the first turnoff to the right for Verceia. Continue past the churchyard of San Fedele and follow the road leading to the Predello hamlet, continuing with a few hairpin bends until you reach La Foppaccia.
Why Not Take a Mountain-Bike Adventure?
For mountain bike enthusiasts, this is a fantastic opportunity to explore the area! The track is also accessible by foot, and you can enjoy a scenic two-hour walk, taking in the full beauty of the surroundings.
